Top 10 Dream Birthday Treats!

The Sugar Hit Birthday Cake

Happy Wednesday, everybody! It’s my birthday tomorrow, so in joyful anticipation of all the fun that I’m about to have (sleeping in, reading new cookbooks, not doing dishes) I thought that I would give you my top 10 recipes that would make for an absolutely unforgettably awesome birthday. In the words of Mario, here we go!

Vanilla Sour Cream Waffles | The Sugar Hit

Number 10. Breakfast is a serious part of any birthday. It sets the tone for the whole day, and it should MOST DEFINITELY be a treat.

These sour cream vanilla waffles are light, fluffy, crispy and so delicious. The perfect accompaniment is yet more sour cream, swirled with some blackberry jam. Or blueberry jam. Heavenly.

Blackberry Jam and Custard Donuts | The Sugar Hit

Number 9. Hey, speaking of blackberry jam, have you ever had it rippled through custard and then stuffed into an ethereally light, lemon-scented donut?

YOU HAVEN’T?! Well, you gotta get onto that, because no birthday would be complete without these Blackberry Jam and Custard Donuts.

Apple Fritters with Salted Caramel | The Sugar Hit

Number 8. These apple fritters with salted caramel are one of my most favourite recipes to ever appear here on The Sugar Hit.

The tart chunks of cinnamony apples, wrapped up in that spiced batter and then all dunked and drizzled in salted caramel? Come to mama.

Nutella Ice Cream in Brioche | The Sugar Hit

Number 7. Hear that? That is the sound of angels singing. Oh wait, you probably can’t hear it because you’re not currently eating a sensual scoop of this Nutella Ice Cream in Brioche.

Everyone’s birthday needs this.

Corn and Scallion Belgian Waffles | The Sugar Hit

Number 6. Now, this makes a damn fine breakfast. But it also makes a damn fine any-other-meal-of-the-day, too.

Because when you take a Corn and Scallion Belgian Waffle, top it with cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, hot sauce and a fried egg, it’s just a damn fine thing.

Greek Chicken Souvlaki | The Sugar Hit

Number 5. These Greek Chicken Souvlakis have lemon and oregano marinated chicken, pink pickled onions, mustard aioli, parsley and FETA FRIES.

Now if you can’t eat a souvlaki stuffed with fries on your birthday, then dammit, when can you eat it?! (my answer: always)

Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookies | The Sugar Hit

Number 4. Could there be a more delightful gift to give someone on their birthday than a freshly baked, gooey centred, crispy edged chocolate chip cookie, that has pretzels in it?

Nope, these chocolate chip pretzel cookies are officially the greatest gift of all.

Bacon Blue Cheese Burgers | The Sugar Hit

Number 3. It had to be these Bacon Blue Cheese Burgers from Seriously Delish.

If there is someone in your life who will grill you up a burger, top it with crispy bacon, blue cheese, arugula and a quick and easy jalapeno jam, then you are living large. LIVING LARGE.

Pretzel Ice Cream and How to Make Choc-Tops! | The Sugar Hit

Number 2. I created these Chocolate-dipped Pretzel Ice Cream Cones after I discovered the life-affirming joys of pretzel ice cream (there’s a recipe in the post!).

It has become without a doubt, my favourite flavour of ice cream, ever. And in a choc-top cone? Unbeatable.

How to make an EPIC Birthday Cake | The Sugar Hit

AAAAAAND NUMBER ONE! Without a doubt it had to be an Epic Birthday Cake! Because everyone deserves a ridiculously huge, frosting piled, multi-layered and sprinkle topped cake on their birthday.

And that’s my list! What’s your perfect birthday look like?

xx Sarah.
