Good afternoon! Did you have a bang up weekend? I hope you did. You only get a certain number of those in this life, you know, so do try and get the most out of them!
That was weird. Now let’s talk food! Today I’d like to perform a little public service announcement. And here it is – ‘If you order an Iced Coffee in Australia, this is what you will get’.
To be clear, it won’t be exactly this. But it will contain ice cream, and probably be topped with whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa or chocolate. I’m led to believe (through personal experience) that this is not the case in lands over the sea!
If you’re in the mood to leave a comment, I’d love to hear what an iced coffee is like where you come from. Here it’s a very milky coffee, topped with ice cream, ice (which I left out), and ALL the toppings.
For this very indulgent, too legit to quit version, I decided to sweeten my coffee (as if it needed it with all that ice cream – ha!) with a little smoky maple syrup. Can we pause for a minute to appreciate what an awesome combo coffee and maple syrup is? It’s the bomb.
So anyway, I made this a full-dairy version, but I can’t help but whisper to you that this might be amazing with almond milk, sans ice cream, or even with a coconut-almond milk combo and a scoop of coconut ice cream? You know that’s gonna be tasty.
This delicious monstrosity of a drink reminds me of going to the beach. Long days, where you’ve got literally nothing to do but mooch around, and take up space at a cafe for hours on end, watching people windsurfing and brushing endless layers of sand from your shoulders.
It’s the perfect thing to hunch over, with a straw and a spoon as you discuss such important issues as ‘what’s the best kind of pizza’, and ‘what we should we maybe make for dinner later…’, and ‘we’re definitely ordering pizza’.
Man oh man, now I really want to go on a beach holiday! I might go and daydream on Air BnB for a while, looking at some of the world’s more beautiful beach locations (California coast, I’m looking at you).
Until then, I think it’s indulgent caffeinated drinks and late night computer binges for me! And in all honesty, I’m not mad at it. Talk to you Wednesday! Peace!
- 2 small scoops ice cream
- ¾ cup (185ml) cold brewed coffee
- Maple syrup, to taste
- A splash of milk
- whipped cream
- chocolate shavings
- Place the ice cream into a tall glass and top with the coffee.
- Add maple syrup to taste, along with a dash of milk.
- Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
- Serve with a spoon and a straw.
